A piece of Cherry Hill’s agricultural and local history has been cleared for a new purpose. As a result, the former Holly Ravine Farm structures have been demolished.
The two homesteads on the property were removed earlier this week. The site was once owned by dairy farmer and former mayor John C. Gilmour Jr.
The main residence was originally built in 1928. At that time, the farm was established at the intersection of Springdale and Evesham roads. Over the years, the property became widely known for the Cow Tail dairy bar.
Recently, the buildings had fallen into disrepair. According to township officials, the structures were not considered historic. Therefore, demolition was approved as part of the redevelopment plan.
In 2024, the township acquired the 22.54-acre property for $3.87 million. Previously, the site had faced potential redevelopment as a senior housing project. However, it was ultimately preserved for open space use.
Following the acquisition, the property was added to the township’s municipal open space inventory. As a result, long-term preservation and public use are being prioritized.
Officials stated that removing the structures was a necessary step. Consequently, the land can now be prepared for future agricultural and recreational use.
Ultimately, the site is being repositioned to support both community access and preservation efforts.
