The large yellow farmhouse has stood on a wooded ravine since 1928. That is when Mayor John C. Gilmour Jr. founded Holly Ravine Farm after buying a cow and marrying his girlfriend. The farm sat at Springdale and Evesham roads in Cherry Hill.
However, the original house and the neighboring 55-year-old home will soon be demolished. The township bought the 22.54 acres last year for $3.87 million. Demolition bids are due next Tuesday, and contractors reviewed the site on November 10.
“With this demolition, a new chapter begins,” Mayor David Fleisher said. He noted that plans will allow passive public use and likely agricultural activities tied to the farm’s history.
